Je borstspieren kun je op vele verschillende manieren trainen. En wil jij sneller resultaat behalen dan zul je moeten trainen volgens een goed opgebouwd systematisch plan.

Je borstspieren zijn samengesteld uit de pectoralis major en minor. De pectoralis major (zie afbeelding) is de grote borstspier en loopt van het sleutelbeen en borstbeen, naar de bovenarm. Het doel van deze spier is om krachten van ons weg te drukken en hij laat de bovenarm van de schouder naar binnen draaien (endorotatie). De m. pectoralis minor is een klein driehoekige spier die loopt onder de pectoralis major en helpt ook bij de schouder flexie, adductie en rotatie. Waarom zou je je borstspieren trainen?

Je borst is een van de grootste spiergroepen in het bovenlichaam. Grote spieren kunnen meer gewicht tillen, waardoor je ook meer calorieën verbrand. Daarnaast train je niet alleen je borst, maar ook de armspieren (biceps/triceps) en delta (schouder) spieren zijn hierbij betrokken. Hierdoor worden er nog meer spiervezels gerekruteerd (aangesproken) waardoor je nog meer calorieën verbrand.

Hoe vaak moet je je borstspieren trainen?

Je kan 2 a 3 keer in de week je borstspieren trainen. Dit is natuurlijk afhankelijk van hoe vaak je naar de sportschool gaat. Om je borstspieren te laten groeien moet je zoveel mogelijk spiervezels als het ware ‘kapot’ maken. Hoe zwaarder en hoe meer series, hoe meer spierschade intramusculair (binnen een spier) zal ontstaan. Dit is ook de bedoeling van de training. Doordat je intramusculair verzuring creëert, worden door het stofje ‘calpain’ de spiervezels zwakker. Hierdoor worden de spiervezels beschadigd en gaan zichzelf herstellen. Als het ware gaan de spiervezels zich splitsen en ontstaat er een grotere en sterkere spier.
Let op! Zorg voor 2 a 3 dagen rust en vul na de training direct je spieren aan met de juiste voeding. Dit is van essentieel belang voor je resultaat. Als je doel uithoudingsvermogen en kracht is, blijf dan trainen met een tot drie sets van 15-20 herhalingen en neem tenminste een dag rust voordat je de oefeningen weer gaat uitvoeren.
